Sexual Assault Defense Training and Prevention
1 in 3 women and 1 in 11 men will be the victims of sexual assault at least once in their lifetime.
It is estimated that there is one sexual assault every 90 seconds in the United States.
In recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, State Senator James Sanders Jr. will be hosting a self defense training and prevention event. Both men and women are welcome to join us. There will be a live self defense demonstration and topics of discussion will include sexual assault prevention, types and causes of sexual assault, support for victims; legal rights for victims; and military sexual trauma. Featured guests will include: New York Self Defense Academy, NYS Coalition Against Sexual Assault, Safe Horizon, NYPD: Special Victims Division, Center Against Domestic Violence, Mount Sinai: SAVI - Sexual Assault and Violence Intervention Program, New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault, VA NY Harbor Healthcare System and Queens Law Associates. This event is co-sponsored by Queens Community Board 13 and the Rosedale Civic Association.
