Senator James Sanders Jr. Plan for Home Ownership (part 1)

Senator James Sanders Jr. wants to encourage home ownership in our community. To facilitate this goal he will host a two-part Homebuyers Educational Series on May 12 & 17th via zoom. These starter courses will give you the proper guidance, resources, and possible funding to have a successful homebuyers experience.

In the first session, Margert Community Corporate, a HUD (Housing & Urban Developed) approved housing counseling agency, will be giving a seminar on their complete Homebuyer Education Program, which highlights advice regarding readiness and preparation for homeownership.

• Federal Housing Administration insured financing
• Housing selection and mobility
• Search assistance
• Fair housing, fair lending, and predatory lending
• Budgeting and credit
• Loan product and feature comparison
• Purchase procedures and closing costs; money management (not including debt management plan programs)
• Selecting a real estate agent
• Home inspection

Once you complete the Margert Homebuyer Education Program, HPD HomeFirst Down Payment Assistance Program may provide qualified homebuyers with up to $40,000 towards the down payment or closing costs on a 1-4 family home, a condominium, or a cooperative in one of the five boroughs of New York City.
