Senator Sanders To Host Community Meeting Advocating for Renaming of Community Cornerstone in Memory of Dr. Deborah L. Hoyle
57-10 Beach Channel Drive
Arverne,
NY
11692
On Thursday, October 28 at 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm, I will be hosting a Public Community meeting at The Child Center of NY—Ocean Bay Community Cornerstone located at 57-10 Beach Channel Drive, Arverne, NY 11692 (in the gymnasium) that will focus on the decision to rename the center in recognition of Dr. Deborah L. Hoyle’s long career of service to the Rockaway’s and its people. This move comes after the passing of Rockaway Advocate, Educator, Mother, Minister, Author/Publisher, and most heart warming of all these somebody’s GrandNana, Dr. Deborah L. Hoyle (1960 - 2021).
The NYCHA Board created an objective set of evaluation criteria and processes to ensure the public process of selecting a name was transparent, inclusive, and reflected a commitment to the values of public engagement in the Rockaway’s. A working group of residents and business owners underwent an effort to determine a name that better reflects The Child Center of NY—Ocean Bay Community Cornerstone’s values, promotes community, and is welcoming to all people who work on, live on, and/or visit the Rockaway’s. Preliminary evaluation; Ocean Bay Community Cornerstone would be known as the Deborah L. Hoyle center.
The most important topics for discussion include:
History and Context (Background)
Honorific Namings/Recommendations
Voting unanimously to rename the building to Deborah L. Hoyle
However, more importantly, we would also very much like to hear from you – your perspectives, questions, comments and feedback – allowing us to have a conversation. I hope you will join me as a partner in this effort.
The session will be recorded and posted online for any who aren’t able to attend. We expect the meeting will last approx. two hours. Please let us know if you can attend by clicking this link.

We ask you to reply by October 21, as we need a quorum to hold the meeting as scheduled.
Attached is an agenda and a Community Meeting Notice with additional details that we have distributed to let the public know of this upcoming change. Please use as needed for distribution to your friends and family.
I look forward to seeing you on Thursday, October 28th. (Virtual Option Also Available)
