(Brooklyn, NY) - Senator Jesse Hamilton will join colleagues, anti-violence advocates, community leaders, and neighborhood residents at a prayer vigil for the victims of Labor Day weekend violence tomorrw, Thursday, September 10. Both New York State and New York City leaders will attend the vigil.
In advance of the vigil, Senator Hamilton said, "My thoughts and prayers are with the Gabay family and all the families suffering in the trying aftermath of the violence from earlier this week. Carey Gabay was enjoying the festivities, celebrating Caribbean-American heritage along with thousands of New Yorkers, when he was struck by senseless gun violence. Now Gabay is in hospital, gravely wounded and fighting for his life."
Senator Hamilton continued, "Gabay’s fight is our fight. We must stand against gun violence, ensure safety in our streets, and prevent families from enduring the agonies that the Gabay family faces. Working in concert with colleagues, advocates, and neighborhood residents, our Anti-Violence Task Force will host a candlelight vigil on Thursday, September 10 at 6pm, on the steps of Full Gospel Assembly at 131 Sullivan Place - near the site of the shooting. I hope the prayers we offer as a community can in some small measure give comfort to families and friends trying to heal. I invite all people of good conscience to join us."
