The bi-annual free electronic waste recycling event is back this autumn as State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. teams up with Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar and Councilman Robert Holden to host this environmental event.
On Sunday, October 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the elected officials will have the Lower East Side Ecology Company at the Forest Park Bandshell Parking Lot where they will be collecting old and broken electronics to be properly recycled.
“When electronics are not properly recycled they can end up in our landfills causing harmful chemicals to get into the soil which are quite harmful to the environment and to us,” Addabbo said. “By recycling your e-waste, you help to clean up the environment and create a healthier planet now and for future generations. I understand that it can be difficult to know when and where to dispose of your old electronics, which is why we hold this event twice a year centrally located at Forest Park so residents have the opportunity to join us and get rid of their e-waste right in their community.”
Electronics that will be accepted during the event are:
- Computers (laptops & desktops, servers, mainframes);
- Monitors (CRT and flat screen);

“I would like to thank all of our partners including Assemblywoman Rajkumar, Councilman Holden and all of our staffs, the Lower East Side Ecology Center for always holding these popular events in our communities, 104COP for their continued support, and the NYC Parks Department for their partnership,” Addabbo added. “We all look forward to seeing our constituents at Forest Park for this event!”
“Every year, I host an electronic waste recycling event with Senator Addabbo and Councilman Holden, and it has become a beloved tradition in South Queens. The event gives our neighbors the chance to remove broken or unwanted electronics cluttering their homes, diverting some of the 7 million tons of e-waste the US produces annually. Electronics recycling lowers our carbon emissions, cleans our water and soil, and recovers rare precious metals. With this event, our whole community comes together to protect our Earth and foster a healthy and sustainable future for our children.”
“I am thrilled to support the LES Ecology Center and its efforts to protect our environment while providing a convenient solution for constituents to dispose of their electronic waste properly,” Holden said. “It's a win-win for our community, and I am proud to partner with Senator Addabbo and Assembly Member Rajkumar to host this e-waste event.”
