Addabbo Hosts Fall E-Waste Event

State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. and Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar will host a free electronic waste recycling event on Sunday, October 6, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Forest Park Bandshell Parking Lot where they are partnering with the Lower East Side Ecology Center to collect old and broken electronics to be properly recycled. GCOP will also be lending their support.
"Properly disposing of e-waste is essential for protecting our environment and public health,” Addabbo said. “When we recycle electronics responsibly, we prevent harmful toxins from contaminating our soil and water, and we conserve valuable resources for future use. Every small action counts, and together we can make a significant difference in creating a sustainable future."
Electronics that will be accepted during the event are:
• Computers (laptops & desktops, servers, mainframes);
• Monitors (CRT and flat screen);
• Handheld devices (smartphones, tablets, MP3 players, e-readers, etc.);
• Network devices (routers, hubs, modems, etc.);
• Peripherals (keyboards, mice, cables, cords, chargers, etc.);
• Components (hard drives, CD-ROMs, circuit boards, power supplies, etc.);
• Printers, scanners, fax-machines, etc.;
• TVs, VCRs, DVRs, DVD & Blu-ray Players;
• Digital Converter Boxes, Cable/Satellite Receivers;
• Audio-visual equipment (cameras, microphones, etc.);
• Video-game consoles and accessories;
• Cell phones, pagers, PDAs;
• Stereo equipment;
• Landline phones/answering machines;
• Extension cords.
Items that will NOT be accepted are:
• Batteries of any kind;
• Floppy disks/VHS tapes/CDs/DVDs/cassette tapes;
• Smoke detectors;
• Medication;
• Any hazardous materials or paint;
• Household appliances.
