Addabbo Hosts Spine Health Awareness Event This October

In recognition of October as Spine Health Awareness Month, Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr.  is proud to host an interactive community event aimed at raising awareness about spinal health and promoting prevention strategies. The event will take place on October 17, 2024, from 7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at the Brewery Keenan Heiser Post 1815, located at 68-01 Cooper Avenue in Glendale. It is conducted partnership with Northwell Long Island Jewish Forest Hills, with support from the Glendale Property Owners Association.

The event will feature a presentation from renowned spine specialist, Hiroyuki Yoshihara, MD, PhD, where he will address the cervical spine and lumbar spine.  The event will include spine stretches and exercises, an opportunity to examine 3D models of the spine and vertebrae, and discussions of workplace ergonomics particularly for those who have  lifestyles or jobs with minimal activity or movement. There will be games and prizes, time for Q&A and resource materials distributed.

“Spine health is a critical issue that affects thousands of individuals and families in our community,” Addabbo said. “This event will provide valuable resources and information to help our residents understand the importance of spinal care and how to maintain a healthy spine. I encourage everyone to attend, as knowledge is the first step toward prevention and better health.”

According to the American Chiropractic Association, approximately 80% of Americans will experience back pain at some point in their lives, making it one of the most common health complaints. Furthermore, the National Institutes of Health reports that back pain is a leading cause of disability worldwide, affecting daily activities and productivity.

“Spinal health is not just about managing pain; it’s about enhancing overall wellness and quality of life,” Addabbo said. “By coming together as a community, we can promote healthy habits and support one another in our health journeys.”
