Syracuse, NY – Legislative Commission on Rural Resources Chair Senator Rachel May (D-48th District) attended the 2023 New York Farm Bureau Agricultural Summit on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, where she sat on a panel with three legislative colleagues to discuss the intersection of agriculture and policy.

The theme of the panel was “Lobbying Level Up: Managing Tough Conversations with Legislators,” and it was moderated by Jim Bittner, President of Bittner-Singer Orchards. Topics ranged from general conversations on legislation, the budget process, and engaging with advocates to more issue-specific discussions about climate change, the environment, and labor. The panel spoke for just over an hour.
This year the New York Farm Bureau hosted their Agricultural Summit at the Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel and Conference Center. The day-long schedule was jam-packed and featured other figures from New York’s agricultural community, such as NYFB President David Fisher, Richard Stup of the Cornell College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and Commissioner Richard Ball of the Department of Agriculture and Markets.
The NY Farm Bureau hosts the summit each year and bills it as “a day-long intensive event addressing issues critical to agriculture’s success in New York.” For more information, you can visit: https://summit.nyfb.org/.
