- Citizen Preparedness
- Disaster Preparedness
HYDE PARK, NY - Senator Sue Serino (R,C,I – Hyde Park), in conjunction with the American Red Cross, is hosting a Citizens Preparedness Corps Training on April 26th from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at the Adriance Memorial Library in Poughkeepsie.
“I am so grateful for all of the work that the Red Cross does not only here in our community, but across the entire state”, said Senator Sue Serino. “The Citizen Preparedness Corps Training helps provide our residents with the information they need to prepare for any disaster, whether it be caused by weather or something in the home. Preparedness is the key to swift recovery in the face of disaster, and the more local community members that we have appropriately trained to respond, the better off our local area will be. I am excited that we are once again able to offer this important training, and I invite community members of all ages to join us for this free event.”
During this two-hour training session, participants will learn valuable skills that they can use if a disaster were to strike the Hudson Valley. Some of the topics include:
- fire safety;
- severe weather preparedness;
- basic first aid;
- evacuation plans;
- emergency supply kits;
- pet safety;
- communication plans, and more!
All participants will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the training.
The Citizen Preparedness Corps is part of an ongoing effort by the state to provide New York residents with useful tools that they can use to protect themselves from emergencies and disasters. With continuous training, the goal is that all New Yorkers will be able to respond accordingly, and recover to pre-disaster conditions quickly and effectively.
While it is not required to RSVP, it is appreciated. To do so, or to get more information, please call Senator Serino’s Hyde Park District Office at (845) 229-0106.
