Shed the Meds!

SERINO PARTNERS WITH LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT TO PROACTIVELY COMBAT HEROIN EPIDEMIC

Because over half of young people who inject heroin report the abuse of prescription pain killers before starting to use the deadly drug, Senator Sue Serino is partnering with local law enforcement to take a proactive approach to combat the heroin epidemic by getting unused prescription drugs off of our streets.

On Tuesday, December 8th, Senator Serino will be hosting a free ‘Shed the Meds!’ event from 4:30pm-6:30pm. During that time, at the Public Safety Building in the City of Poughkeepsie, members of the community can drop off unused or expired prescription medications where members of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office and the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department will be on hand to safely dispose of them.

Senator Serino said, “As the holidays approach, getting rid of your unused prescription drugs is probably the furthest thing from many people’s minds. However, as we’re gearing up for visitors, parties and the like, now is the best time to clean out your medicine cabinets to help keep prescription drugs out of our kids’ hands.

While you’re out and about, all you have to do is drive up and drop off your unwanted prescription drugs and we take care of the rest! It’s a simple step that can make a huge difference in our community by helping to keep prescription drugs off our streets.”

Members of the local media are encouraged to spread the word and invited to attend.
