With blood donation supply at a critical low, Senator Sue Serino is teaming up with the American Red Cross Hudson Valley Chapter to host a local blood drive next Tuesday, July 13, 2021 from 1 p.m to 6 p.m. at the Hyatt House in Fishkill, NY to give community members the opportunity to donate. There is an emergent need for ‘O’ blood types, as that is the universal blood type that can be transfused universally.
“The average blood donation can save up to three lives, and often, your donation goes right back to helping our local community,” said Senator Sue Serino. “Blood donations have decreased since the start of the pandemic, and as we start to see a return to normalcy in the wake of COVID-19, the need for donations will only rise. If you have donated in the past, or are looking to donate for the first time, I encourage you to consider signing up for this important event.”
There is no deferral to donate for individuals who recently received the COVID-19 vaccine.
The Red Cross is strictly following all health and safety guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control and due to safety precautions they have in place, individuals interested in donating must sign up in advance.
