Serino Partners with 518 Powerup to Source Phone Charges for Local Patients in Need

Senator Sue Serino is partnering with ‘518 Powerup’ to collect new and gently used phone chargers for area hospitals in need. 518 Powerup is an initiative that began in Upstate New York when organizers heard that local Trauma Units were in desperate need of spare phone chargers to help patients and staff keep in touch with their loved ones throughout the pandemic.

“In a time where we feel more isolated than ever, being able to stay in touch with loved ones is crucial,” said Senator Sue Serino. “The last thing our healthcare workers and patients receiving care need to worry about is how they’ll be able to contact their family members. Our community has continued to think outside the box when it comes to supporting one another during this pandemic, and this is another unique way we are working to help support the healthcare heroes who have done so much for our community during this time. I thank 518 Powerup for bringing this issue to the fore and for allowing us to partake in their initiative that will go a long way in keeping our community connected.”

518 Powerup is looking to collect the following types of phone charging accessories: Apple, Samsung, Android, Mini-USB, Micro-USB, USB-A, USB-C, Universal, and Wall Power Adapters. Donations collected by Senator Serino’s office will benefit hospitals and healthcare facilities within the local Hudson Valley community. Donations will be accepted from Monday, March 1st until Friday, March 12th, and can be dropped off to Senator Serino’s Hyde Park Office (4254 Albany Post Rd., Hyde Park, NY 12538) Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Putnam County residents who may wish to make a donation can do so by appointment by calling Senator Serino’s Putnam Valley Office at 845-528-0417.

In an effort to keep our community safe, all visitors must wear a facemask upon entering the office. For residents who do not wish to enter, but would still like to donate, you can call from the parking lot and a member of Senator Serino’s team will meet you at your vehicle for a contactless pick-up.
