As part of Lyme Disease Awareness Month, Senator Sue Serino and Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro are teaming up to host ‘Tacking Ticks on the Big Screen,’ a free family movie night that will put a fun spin on raising awareness for the important issue. The event will feature a special presentation of Paramount’s “Bee Movie,” and informational materials will be provided to all attendees aimed to ensure local families have the resources and information they need to stay tick-free. The free event will be held on Thursday, May 20, 2021, at the Overlook Drive-in Theatre in Poughkeepsie, with gates opening at 6:30 p.m. and the movie starting at sunset.
Senator Sue Serino said, “Understanding the signs and symptoms of Lyme and tick-borne diseases (TBDs), and learning best practices for prevention, has never been more important. Kids are at the highest risk of contracting Lyme and TBDs, and with all of us spending even more time outdoors, I want to be sure local families have the tools they need to stay healthy and tick-free this year. Our free family movie night will be a fun way to get important information into the hands of local families, and we hope our neighbors will take advantage of this unique opportunity.”
Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro said, “As we all look forward to warmer weather and spending time outside in the natural splendor Dutchess County has to offer, we remind residents to take precautions to guard against tick-borne illnesses, including Lyme Disease. Dutchess County is proud to partner with Senator Sue Serino to raise awareness about tick-borne illnesses and keep our residents as safe and healthy as possible. I urge residents to enjoy this free evening of family fun while learning the simple steps they can take to stay tick-free.”
Thanks to the generosity of the owners of the Overlook Drive-In Theatre, this event is free and open to the public. Concessions will be available to purchase at the theater, and no outside food or drink are permitted.
