SERINO SEEKS TO HELP COMMUNITY PROPERLY RETIRE WORN AMERICAN FLAGS
- Flag Day
HYDE PARK, NY – Ahead of the Memorial Day holiday, Senator Sue Serino announced that she will be working to help residents properly retire worn American flags. Senator Serino will be collecting worn or tattered American flags at her district offices in Hyde Park and Putnam Valley, which will then be properly disposed of during a Flag Day Ceremony at the VFW Post 170 in Poughkeepsie.
“Our flag should always be treated with honor and respect, even after it has become worn or tattered,” said Senator Sue Serino. “With it serving as the ultimate symbol of freedom and hope for so many around the world, and representing the tremendous sacrifices of those who have worked to defend our rights and freedoms, we want to do our part to ensure it is disposed of in a dignified manner. I hope our neighbors will take advantage of this unique opportunity and we thank the Poughkeepsie VFW for their efforts to ensure the appropriate retirement of these flags.”
Flags will be accepted from Monday, May 24, 2021, to Friday, June 4, 2021.
Those interested in retiring their worn or tattered flags can do so by delivering them to Senator Serino’s Hyde Park Office (4254 Albany Post Road, Hyde Park, NY 12538) Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (with the exception of Monday, May 31st) or to Senator Serino’s Putnam Valley Office by appointment (117 Town Park Road, Putnam Valley 10579). All visitors are kindly asked to wear a facemask or covering when entering the building. Individuals who would prefer not to enter the building can call 845-229-0106 and a team member will meet them at their vehicle for a contactless pickup.
For those unable to deliver their flag to the office, please call 845-229-0106 to arrange an alternate pickup.
