Senator Sue Serino and the Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie Present: Combating Sex Trafficking: How to Help Keep Kids Safe On and Offline

With reports noting the high incidence of human sex trafficking not only in the state of New York, but here in the Hudson Valley as well, Senator Sue Serino is continuing her mission to raise critical awareness about this important issue. On Wednesday, November 13, 2019, Senator Serino will partner with the Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie to host an informational forum on the topic to raise the profile of this silent epidemic and to help provide area residents and parents with the tools they need to help keep kids safe both on and offline. The event, beginning at 6:00 p.m., will be held at the Henry A. Wallace Center at the FDR Presidential Library and Home in Hyde Park.     

“Too often, people think of sex trafficking as a ‘big city issue,’ but the unfortunate reality is that our communities here in the Hudson Valley are being impacted as well,” said Senator Serino. “This discussion presents a unique opportunity to hear from professionals who are working tirelessly to generate awareness and provide the community with effective tools to combat this heinous epidemic. I thank the Children’s Home for the critically important work that they do and for working with us to help make our community even safer.”

Event participants will hear directly from area experts about the impact sex trafficking has on our local area, ways to identify victims, how they can effectively report suspected incidents and ways to help protect children from predators who may be operating online. Representatives from the Dutchess County Task Force Against Human Trafficking will be on hand to share information on local services and resources available.
