Sex Trafficking in the Hudson Valley: Combatting a Silent Epidemic

With recent reportshighlighting the high rates of commercial sex trafficking not only here in New York State, but directly in the Hudson Valley, Senator Sue Serino has made effectively combatting these heinous crimes a high priority. Earlier this year, during the Legislative Session, Serino introduced important legislation to hold traffickers accountable and raise critical awareness by engaging community partners. On Tuesday, October 2nd, she will join with representatives from Hudson Valley anti-trafficking non-profit organizations, Anchor of Hope and Give Way to Freedom, as well as the Dutchess County Human Trafficking Task Force to host an informational meeting about the important issue to ensure that it gets the attention it deserves here in our community.

The event will raise critical awareness about commercial sex trafficking here in the Hudson Valley by providing residents with important information to help the community combat these heinous crimes. Participants will hear from area experts about the impact sex trafficking has on our local area, ways to identify victims, and how they can help to effectively report incidents.

“Sex trafficking is an epidemic that has flown under the radar for far too long,” said Senator Sue Serino. “It is not just a ‘big city’ issue and it is happening here in the Hudson Valley in staggering numbers. I am proud to have sponsored numerous pieces of legislation aimed at raising awareness and holding perpetrators accountable, and look forward to engaging in this powerful discussion about how we all can get involved to help empower victims and put an stop to these heinous crimes.”
