ARE YOU PREPARED FOR A DISASTER? SERINO HOSTS FREE CITIZEN PREPAREDNESS TRAINING

In partnership with New York State, the American Red Cross is offering free Citizen Preparedness Corps training across the state and throughout the year. The program provides a comprehensive overview of how to prepare for, respond to and recover from both natural and man-made disasters most common in New York State. Following a successful event held earlier in the year geared especially toward seniors, Senator Serino is hosting another event for individuals and families who have expressed interest in light of the recent string of natural disasters. The free Citizen Preparedness Corps Training Session will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at the Town of Poughkeepsie Senior Center. The training will run from 10:30am-12:00pm.

Senator Serino, said, “We have all seen the devastation that both natural and man-made disasters can cause in the blink of an eye. This comprehensive course aims to empower community members by giving them the tools they need to respond effectively and help themselves and their neighbors in the event of a disaster. Now, more than ever, we know just how important it is to have a prepared citizenry and I encourage residents of all ages to get involved.”

The event is free and open to the public. The event, entitled ‘Prepare, Respond, Recover: What to do When Disaster Strikes’, brings a Red Cross representative directly to local communities to teach residents everything from fire safety and how to prepare for severe weather, to basic first aid, and evacuation and recovery plans.

Please RSVP by Thursday, October 26, 2017 by calling Senator Serino’s Hyde Park District Office at 845-229-0106.
