Senator Sue Serino and Putnam Valley Town Supervisor Sam Oliverio Host Event to Help Residents Stay Tick-Free

Following his harrowing experience with a tick-borne disease, Senator Sue Serino is teaming up with Putnam Valley Town Supervisor, Sam Oliverio to raise critical awareness about Lyme and tick-borne diseases in the local community.

On Thursday, September 5th, 2019 at the Putnam Valley Town Hall, the representatives will host a free public forum to provide residents with important information they need to stay tick-free as they enjoy all the outdoor activities the community has to offer. This event will feature interactive presentations from area experts and will provide residents with up-to-date information regarding best practices for prevention, proper tick removal procedures, and more.

Senator Sue Serino, who has made this initiative a top priority since taking office said, “Information is power when it comes to protecting residents from the threat of Lyme and tick-borne diseases, and it is important to stay up to date as information concerning this issue is always evolving. While summer may be winding down, ticks remain active in warm weather and continue to present a threat into the upcoming fall months. Supervisor Oliverio is using his first-hand experience with a tick-borne disease to help us shed light on this epidemic, and this event is about ensuring local residents have the information they need to stay tick-free as they enjoy the natural environment that helps to make our community so unique.” 

Town Supervisor Sam Oliverio said, “As Supervisor of the Town of Putnam Valley, I have always advocated for increased tick awareness. Senator Sue Serino has been at the forefront of this movement since she was elected.  Joining with the Senator, we will be holding an event on Thursday, September 5th, 2019 from 6:00 PM -  7:30 PM here at our Putnam Valley Town Hall (265 Oscawana Lake Rd.).  Having almost died from the tick borne Ehrlichiosis bacteria; I can speak first hand of the danger these extremely small creatures are to ourselves and many of our pets.  Please attend this very informative event.  Knowledge is everything when confronting this modern plague.  Hope to see you on Sept. 5th here at our Town Hall.”
