News Conference: Upstate transportation funding ~ Senator O'Mara, Assemblyman Phil Palmesano and Assemblyman Chris Friend joined by local officials in Corning

State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C,I-Big Flats), Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning), Assemblyman Chris Friend (R,C,I-Big Flats) and a coalition of local officials will call on Governor Andrew Cuomo and legislative leaders to increase state funding for roads, bridges and culverts locally and statewide through the Consolidated Highway Improvement Program (CHIPS) and other state investments.

The lawmakers have scheduled a news conference on Monday, October 19, 2015 at the South Corning Highway Garage at 7 Clark Street in South Corning (right behind the South Corning Fire Department building).  They will be joined by Corning Mayor Rich Negri, Chemung County Executive Tom Santulli, area county and town highway superintendents and other local officials. 

Chief among the group’s concerns is a recent agreement between Governor Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio that will direct billions of dollars in state aid to the downstate mass transit system without a commitment to parity for the rest of the state’s transportation infrastructure.  Numerous reports have highlighted the decline of New York’s locally maintained transportation infrastructure and its impact on economic development and motorist safety.
