State Senator Velmanette Montgomery and Assemblywoman Crystal Peoples-Stokes welcomes special guest Montel Williams to Caucus Weekend for a discussion on the legalization of Marijuana. We  will address the health benefits of medical marijuana and explore legalization through a criminal justice and economic lens.

Montel Williams is one of the highest profile advocates for medical cannabis in the country and the founder of Lenitiv Scientific; a company committed to providing high quality medical cannabis to seriously ill individuals. He has used medical cannabis products to effectively manage the symptoms of his Multiple Sclerosis (MS) since his diagnosis with the disease in 1999.

Williams began his professional career in the United States Marine Corps and earned his media celebrity status as an Emmy Award winning television personality. He has since become an inspirational speaker, author, entrepreneur, and advocate for patients worldwide.

Over the past two decades, he has worked to pass medical cannabis legislation in states such as New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut. and led the push for military veterans to access medical cannabis without the threat of losing benefits

India Walton

India Walton is the lead organizer for Open Buffalo’s Justice and Opportunity campaigns, focusing on criminal justice and police reform including legalizing marijuana statewide and ending racist low-level marijuana enforcement in the city of Buffalo.  India cut her activist teeth fighting against mandatory minimums as a teenager in the mid to late 90’s. After becoming a registered nurse and while raising four sons, India fought for workers and women’s rights as a union member leader.
