BILL NUMBER:S4652 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the social services law and the correction law, in relation to temporary emergency housing for sex offenders PURPOSE: To insure that local law enforcement agencies of Suffolk County are notified of the names and addresses of sex offenders who are placed in temporary emergency housing by County Department of Social Services. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Adds a new subdivision 6 of section 136 of the Social Services Law and a new subdivision 7 of section 168-f of the Correction Law which will require Social Services departments to notify local law enforcement agencies, of Suffolk County, within 24 hours of placing a sexual offender in temporary emergency housing in that community. EXISTING LAW: Section 168-f of the Correction Law requires that sexual offenders register with local law enforcement agencies within 10 days of moving. ZELDIN -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Social Services AN ACT to amend the social services law and the correction law, in relation to temporary emergency housing for sex offenders THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 136 of the social services law is amended by adding a new subdivision 6 to read as follows: 6. NOTWITHSTANDING THE PROVISIONS OF SUBDIVISION TWO OF THIS SECTION, IN THE EVENT THAT THE COMMISSIONER OF SOCIAL SERVICES FOR SUFFOLK COUNTY PLACES A HOMELESS SEX OFFENDER INTO ANY FORM OF TEMPORARY EMERGENCY HOUSING, SUCH COMMISSIONER SHALL, WITHIN TWENTY-FOUR HOURS, NOTIFY THE LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY AND PROVIDE THE NAME AND ADDRESS OF THE SEX OFFENDER BEING PLACED. S 2. Section 168-f of the correction law is amended by adding a new subdivision 7 to read as follows: 7.
