BILL NUMBER: S6794 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the public health law, in relation to immunization requirements for certain camp employees PURPOSE : This bill would require employees working at camps to be vaccinated SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS : Section 1 amends section 1394 of the public health law by adding a new subdivision 5 to require the commissioner of health to promulgate rules and regulations requiring employees at children's overnight camps, summer day camps and traveling summer day camps to receive immunizations that have been recommended by the department. States that this requirement shall not apply to employees who hold genuine and sincere religious beliefs which are contrary to this subdivision. Sections 2 is the effective date. JUSTIFICATION : Camp counselors and employees come into close contact with campers.

HANNON -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Health AN ACT to amend the public health law, in relation to immunization requirements for certain camp employees THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 1394 of the public health law is amended by adding a new subdivision 5 to read as follows: 5. THE COMMISSIONER SHALL PROMULGATE RULES AND REGULATIONS REQUIRING EACH CHILDREN'S OVERNIGHT CAMP, SUMMER DAY CAMP AND TRAVELING SUMMER DAY CAMP TO ENSURE THAT EMPLOYEES WORKING AT SUCH CAMPS BE IMMUNIZED AGAINST MUMPS, MEASLES, RUBELLA, DIPHTHERIA, VARICELLA, PERTUSSIS AND TETANUS. THIS SUBDIVISION SHALL NOT APPLY TO EMPLOYEES WHO HOLD GENUINE AND SINCERE RELIGIOUS BELIEFS WHICH ARE CONTRARY TO THE PRACTICES HEREIN REQUIRED. S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
