  printed to be committed to the Committee on Veterans, Homeland Securi-
  ty and Military Affairs

AN ACT to amend the vehicle and  traffic  law,  in  relation  to  custom
  plates for veterans

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. The vehicle and traffic law is  amended  by  adding  a  new
section 404-x to read as follows:
  S  404-X.  CUSTOM PLATES FOR VETERANS, WAIVER OF FEE.  NOTWITHSTANDING
ANY OTHER PROVISION OF LAW TO THE CONTRARY, ALL INITIAL FEES FOR  EXIST-
ING  PLATE  DESIGNS IN THE MILITARY AND VETERANS SERIES OF CUSTOM PLATES
ARE HEREBY WAIVED IN THE CASE OF AN APPLICATION THEREFOR BY ANY  VETERAN
OF SERVICE IN THE ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES. THIS WAIVER APPLIES
TO FEES FOR SUCH CUSTOM PLATES WITHOUT VANITY LETTERING.
  S  2.  This  act shall take effect on the first of May next succeeding
the date on which it shall have become a law.
