BILL NUMBER: S7524
TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the election law, in relation to
requiring that all printed political campaign mailing pieces include a
message about recycling the printed materials
PURPOSE :
This legislation requires that all political literature in New York
have a message printed on it that the material is recyclable.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS :
Section 1 - The election law is amended to create a new section 3-111.
This section will require that all political literature included a
recycling symbol and the message "This material is recyclable. Please
properly recycle after use."
Section 2 - Immediately
JUSTIFICATION :
Elections in New York generate many forms of political literature
including mailings, handbills, palm cards, and other paper. The paper
material is recyclable. To encourage recipients to recycle this bill
would require a message noting that the material is recyclable.

AN ACT to amend the election law, in relation to requiring that all

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The election law is amended by adding a new section 3-111
to read as follows:
S 3-111. RECYCLING OF CAMPAIGN AND POLITICAL LITERATURE. ALL POLI-
TICAL LITERATURE IN NEW YORK STATE, WHETHER HAND-BILLED OR MAILED, SHALL
HAVE AFFIXED TO IT, THE RECYCLING LOGO SIGNIFIED BY THREE CHASING ARROWS
IN A TRIANGULAR CONFIGURATION, AND THE FOLLOWING PRINTED MESSAGE: "THIS
MATERIAL IS RECYCLABLE. PLEASE PROPERLY RECYCLE AFTER USE."
S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets
[ ] is old law to be omitted.
