2017-S2291 (ACTIVE) - Summary

Provides that every person who has served in more than one time of war shall be entitled to additional credit as a veteran or disabled veteran in competitive examinations for original appointment or promotion for every such time of war during which person served, regardless of whether any such person has utilized such credit for a competitive examination for original appointment or a competitive examination for promotion.

 Introduced  by  Sen.  PARKER -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
   printed to be committed to the Committee on Veterans, Homeland Securi-
   ty and Military Affairs
 
 AN ACT to amend the civil service law, in relation to the use of credits
   for veterans and disabled veterans

   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section  1.  Subdivision  4  of section 85 of the civil service law is
 amended by adding a new paragraph (e) to read as follows:
   (E) EVERY PERSON WHO HAS SERVED IN MORE THAN ONE TIME OF WAR SHALL  BE
 ENTITLED  TO THE ADDITIONAL CREDIT PROVIDED HEREIN AS A VETERAN OR DISA-
 BLED VETERAN, IN COMPETITIVE EXAMINATIONS FOR  ORIGINAL  APPOINTMENT  OR
 PROMOTION  FOR  EVERY  SUCH TIME OF WAR DURING WHICH SUCH PERSON SERVED,
 REGARDLESS OF WHETHER ANY SUCH PERSON HAS UTILIZED  SUCH  CREDIT  FOR  A
 COMPETITIVE  EXAMINATION FOR ORIGINAL APPOINTMENT OR A COMPETITIVE EXAM-
 INATION FOR PROMOTION.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
