BILL NUMBER: S1561 SPONSOR: JACOBS TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the education law, in relation to working as a teaching assistant accruing time towards certification PURPOSE: This bill allows teachers to use their experience as teaching assistants towards accreditation of their certification. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section one: adds a new subdivision to section 3006 where the commis- sioner shall credit experience as a teaching assistant towards receiving or maintaining certification. Section two: sets the effective date.

JACOBS -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Education AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to working as a teaching assistant accruing time towards certification THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 3006 of the education law is amended by adding a new subdivision 4 to read as follows: 4. WHERE TEACHING EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED TO RECEIVE OR MAINTAIN CERTIFICATION THE COMMISSIONER SHALL CREDIT EXPERIENCE AS A TEACHING ASSISTANT TOWARDS SUCH REQUIREMENT. § 2. This act shall take effect immediately. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD05774-01-9
