BILL NUMBER: S207 SPONSOR: PERSAUD TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to increasing fines for individuals who fail to comply with a stop work order PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: To ensure that proper penalties are issued for individuals that violate stop order request and violate tenant rights as well as New York City law. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section 1 amends section 47 of part A of local law number 141 of the administrative code of the city of New York to add a civil penalty for any person who fails to comply with a stop work order in the amount of five ten thousand dollars for initial violation and ten twenty thousand

PERSAUD -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Cities AN ACT to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to increasing fines for individuals who fail to comply with a stop work order THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 28-207.2.6 of the administrative code of the city of New York, as amended by local law number 157 of the city of New York for the year 2017, is amended to read as follows: § 28-207.2.6 Penalties. In addition to the penalties provided for in this chapter, any person who fails to comply with a stop work order shall be liable for a civil penalty in the amount of [$6,000] $10,000 for the initial violation and [$12,000] $20,000 for every subsequent violation, to be paid to the department prior to the rescission of the stop work order; provided, however, this shall not apply to any work performed to remedy an unsafe or hazardous condition as authorized by order of the commissioner. § 2. This act shall take effect on the ninetieth day after it shall have become a law. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD02911-01-1
