TITLE OF BILL:

An act to amend the parks, recreation and historic preservation law, in
relation to providing a fifty percent discount for state residents on
admission fees to parks, recreational facilities or historic sites oper-
ated by the state office of parks, recreation and historic preservation
for the 2022 season; and providing for the repeal of such provisions
upon expiration thereof

 
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:

Provides a fifty percent discount for state residents on admission fees
to parks, recreational facilities or historic sites)

 
SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:

Section 1. Section 13.15 of the parks, recreation and historic preserva-
tion law is amended by adding a new subdivision 3-a to read as follows:

              

3-a. Notwithstanding the provisions of subdivisions three and four of
this section or of any other provision to the contrary, each resident of
the state shall be entitled to a discount of fifty percent off two thou-
sand twenty-two admission fees, as published by April first, two thou-
sand twenty-two, that such resident would otherwise have been responsi-
ble for paying to obtain entry to any park, recreational facility or
historic site.

 
JUSTIFICATION:

Many New York State residents who have been living under pandemic
restrictions will finally get a chance to take advantage of our Great
State's parks, recreational areas and historic sites in the coming
months.

At the same time, the price of gas and inflation at a 40-year high are
leaving too many of our citizens with less disposable income to enjoy
these amenities.

This measure cuts the price of admission in half at those outdoor recre-
ational facilities operated by the state office of parks, recreation and
historic preservation for the 2022 season.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS FOR STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS:

None.

 
EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect immediately and shall apply only to entry
fees charged during 2022; provided that this act shall expire and be
deemed repealed October 15, 2022.
