   tee on Consumer Affairs and Protection
 
 AN  ACT to amend the general business law, in relation to requiring that
   all new motor vehicles sold at new motor vehicle dealerships contain a
   spare tire
 
   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

   Section 1. The general business law is amended by adding a new section
 396-pp to read as follows:
   §  396-PP.  SPARE  TIRE REQUIREMENT. 1. ALL NEW MOTOR VEHICLES SOLD AT
 NEW MOTOR VEHICLE DEALERSHIPS SHALL INCLUDE A SPARE TIRE, WHETHER OR NOT
 EQUIPPED WITH STANDARD RADIAL OR RUN-FLAT TIRES.
   2. FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS SECTION, A RUN-FLAT TIRE  IS  A  PNEUMATIC
 VEHICLE TIRE DESIGNED TO RESIST THE EFFECTS OF DEFLATION WHEN PUNCTURED,
 ALLOWING  THE  VEHICLE  TO  CONTINUE  TO BE DRIVEN AT REDUCED SPEEDS FOR
 LIMITED DISTANCES, BUT CANNOT REPLACE A SPARE  TIRE  FOR  SAFETY  AND  A
 LONGER THAN EXPECTED JOURNEY TO A REPAIR SHOP.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
