E. BROWN, BEEPHAN, McDONOUGH, LEMONDES, DeSTEFANO -- read once and referred to the Committee on Consumer Affairs and Protection AN ACT to amend the general business law, in relation to requiring that all new motor vehicles sold at new motor vehicle dealerships contain a spare tire THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The general business law is amended by adding a new section 396-pp to read as follows: § 396-PP. SPARE TIRE REQUIREMENT. 1. ALL NEW MOTOR VEHICLES SOLD AT NEW MOTOR VEHICLE DEALERSHIPS SHALL INCLUDE A SPARE TIRE, WHETHER OR NOT EQUIPPED WITH STANDARD RADIAL OR RUN-FLAT TIRES. 2. FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS SECTION, A RUN-FLAT TIRE IS A PNEUMATIC VEHICLE TIRE DESIGNED TO RESIST THE EFFECTS OF DEFLATION WHEN PUNCTURED, ALLOWING THE VEHICLE TO CONTINUE TO BE DRIVEN AT REDUCED SPEEDS FOR LIMITED DISTANCES, BUT CANNOT REPLACE A SPARE TIRE FOR SAFETY AND A LONGER THAN EXPECTED JOURNEY TO A REPAIR SHOP. § 2.
