BILL NUMBER: S2723 SPONSOR: SKOUFIS TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the public authorities law, in relation to enacting the "MTA board member attendance act" PURPOSE: Establishes a law to require MTA board members to attend at least half of the public hearings on fare increases before voting on the increase in order to encourage genuine public input into MTA decision making and to ensure that MTA board members give due consideration to the views of the riding public before raising fares. SKOUFIS -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the public authorities law, in relation to enacting the "MTA board member attendance act" THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Short title. This act shall be known and may be cited as the "MTA board member attendance act". § 2. Subdivision 3 of section 1263 of the public authorities law is amended by adding a new paragraph (e) to read as follows: (E) IN ORDER TO CAST A VOTE ON PROPOSED FARE HIKES, A BOARD MEMBER SHALL ATTEND A MAJORITY OF PUBLIC HEARINGS. § 3.
