BILL NUMBER: S7902 SPONSOR: PARKER TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the labor law, in relation to requiring employers to provide up to ten additional days of unpaid leave for absences due to domestic violence, a family offense, sexual offense, stalking or human trafficking PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: The purpose of the legislation is to provide additional sick leave for victims of domestic violence and family offenses. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Amends the labor law to add a new subdivision, which provides an addi- tional ten days of unpaid sick leave to an employee upon request. JUSTIFICATION:

PARKER, HOYLMAN-SIGAL, MYRIE -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Labor AN ACT to amend the labor law, in relation to requiring employers to provide up to ten additional days of unpaid leave for absences due to domestic violence, a family offense, sexual offense, stalking or human trafficking THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 196-b of the labor law is amended by adding a new subdivision 15 to read as follows: 15. IN CASES OF SICK LEAVE, PAID OR UNPAID, PROVIDED PURSUANT TO SUBPARAGRAPH (III) OF PARAGRAPH A OF SUBDIVISION FOUR OF THIS SECTION, AN EMPLOYEE SHALL BE PROVIDED UP TO AN ADDITIONAL TEN DAYS OF UNPAID LEAVE UPON REQUEST FOR AN EXTENSION OF LEAVE BEYOND THE SICK LEAVE PROVIDED TO SUCH EMPLOYEE PURSUANT TO THIS SECTION. § 2.
