BILL NUMBER: S6973 SPONSOR: WEBER TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the labor law, in relation to requiring employers to offer paid leave to veteran employees on Veterans' day PURPOSE: An act to amend the labor law, in relation to requiring public employers to guarantee a paid leave of absence for public employees who are Veter- ans on Veteran's Day SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section I amends labor law to require that public employers guarantee a leave of absence on Veterans' Day for public employees who are Veterans. Section 2 establishes that the act shall take effect immediately.

WEBER -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Labor AN ACT to amend the labor law, in relation to requiring employers to offer paid leave to veteran employees on Veterans' day THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The labor law is amended by adding a new section 219-e to read as follows: § 219-E. LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR VETERANS ON VETERANS' DAY. EVERY EMPLOY- ER IN THIS STATE SHALL OFFER A LEAVE OF ABSENCE WITH PAY FOR TWENTY-FOUR HOURS ON THE ELEVENTH DAY OF NOVEMBER, KNOWN AS VETERANS' DAY, TO EVERY EMPLOYEE WHO IS A VETERAN, AS DEFINED BY SUBDIVISION THREE OF SECTION ONE OF THE VETERANS' SERVICES LAW, AND HAS RECEIVED A DISCHARGE OTHER THAN BAD CONDUCT OR DISHONORABLE FROM SUCH SERVICE, EXCEPT WHERE SUCH ACTION WOULD ENDANGER THE PUBLIC SAFETY OR SUCH EMPLOYER HAS DESIGNATED SUCH EMPLOYEE AS A CRITICAL EMPLOYEE, IN WHICH EVENT SUCH PERSON SHALL BE ENTITLED TO LEAVE OF ABSENCE WITH PAY ON ANOTHER DAY IN LIEU THEREOF. § 2.
