Sheltered workshops
General Municipal (GMU) CHAPTER 24, ARTICLE 6
§ 139-c. Sheltered workshops. Any municipal corporation may equip and
maintain sheltered workshops established by any non-profit organization
chartered by the board of regents and approved by the state education
department for the purpose of providing suitable training and retraining
for work for persons who, because of age, chronic physical illness or
impairments, cannot find training, retraining or remunerative work
elsewhere. The state education department shall make such rules and
regulations for the operation and use of such sheltered workshops as may
be necessary to carry out the purposes of this act, except that such
rules and regulations shall not contravene rules and regulations to be
made by the department of labor with regard to wages, hours of work,
conditions of work and other matters now under the jurisdiction of such
department.
