LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION supporting economic development, education and
culture promoted through international trade within the global market

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body supports quality international services
focused on advancing the competitive position of New York's customers in
global markets; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body supports the promotion of exports for
New York manufacturing and service companies and encourages direct
foreign investment in New York; and
WHEREAS, New York companies need current market information, country
profiles and qualified contacts in order to gain potential represen-
tatives, agents, distributors, importers and prospective customers in
foreign markets; and
WHEREAS, New York companies also need trade leads and assistance with
trade shows in order to compete in today's global markets; and
WHEREAS, New York may benefit from the partnership of international
trade offices in offices across the globe including in Brussels, Belgi-
um; Tokyo, Japan; Hong Kong, People's Republic of China; Toronto, Cana-
da; Tel Aviv, Israel; Mexico City, Mexico; and Johannesburg, South Afri-
ca; and
WHEREAS, New York would benefit from assistance given to foreign
companies seeking New York businesses as suppliers of products and
services; and
WHEREAS, New York would benefit economically from providing New York
companies with assistance with joint ventures, licensing agreements and
technology transfers in global markets; and
WHEREAS, Supporting the international trade will also promote interna-
tional exchanges of commerce, education and culture; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
support economic development, education and culture promoted through
international trade within the global market.
