COMMENDING Beth Ramme upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by the New York
State Council of Children and Families and the New
York State Office of Mental Health on May 2, 2017
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their
valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Beth Ramme upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the New York State Council of Children and Families and
the New York State Office of Mental Health feted at its What's Great in
our State, A Celebration of Children's Mental Awareness on Tuesday, May
2, 2017, in the Huxley Auditorium at the New York State Museum in
Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Beth Ramme is being recognized for her remarkable
contributions to a greater understanding of children's mental health
issues; she successfully adapted NAMI Basics in order to bring this
vital program to a larger audience; and
WHEREAS, Beth Ramme has taught the course at the Suffolk County
women's jail in Riverhead, New York, and is currently presenting a
version for education and social service professionals from Long Island;
and
WHEREAS, NAMI Basics is a free, six-week education program for
parents and family caregivers of children and teenagers who are
experiencing symptoms of a mental illness or who have already been
diagnosed; and
WHEREAS, Through NAMI Basics, people struggling with mental illness
will discover that they are not alone, and that recovery is a journey,
and there is hope; and
WHEREAS, NAMI Basics covers several topics including managing
crises, solving problems and communicating effectively; how to take care
of yourself and handle stress; developing the confidence and stamina to
support your child with compassion; advocating for your child's rights
at school and in health care settings; learning about current
treatments, including evidence-based therapies, medications and side
effects; and gaining an overview of the public mental health care,
school and juvenile justice systems; as well as understanding the
challenges and impact of mental health conditions on your entire family;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Beth Ramme upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the New York State Council of Children and Families and
the New York State Office of Mental Health; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Beth Ramme.
