ADELPHI NY STATEWIDE BREAST CANCER HOTLINE & SUPPORT PROGRAM

Mother's Day is nearing and we are again conducting our annual Mother’s Day Mammography Campaign.  We are writing to ask you to spread the word about the importance of mammography and the help that is available to your constituents through the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program.

Anyone in New York State with breast cancer concerns can call the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program’s toll free number (1-800-877-8077) and speak with someone who has “been there.”  The more than 100 highly trained volunteers offer emotional support, information and referrals.  Social work staff provides professional services.  There is no charge for any of these services.

We receive nearly 4,000 calls each year from concerned women and men throughout New York State and many visit our website (www.adelphi.edu/nysbreastcancer). Many women are so fearful of a breast cancer diagnosis that they avoid getting a mammogram. And yet the reality is that the vast majority of women do not have breast cancer.  And, to date, the best weapon we have against breast cancer is early detection so those women who would find a lump are better served because their breast cancer has been found earlier.
