DR. ZULEMA BLAIR
Dr. Zulema Blair’s profound contribution to academics is matched only by her stellar work in the community. She is currently the Chair of the Department of Public Administration at Medgar Evers College, where she coordinates the American Democracy Project, a national organization committed to producing graduates who understand and are committed to engaging in meaningful actions as citizens in a democracy. Her areas of expertise include analysis of social class, political behavior, elections, race and crime in America, and research methodology.
Her academic activities spill out into the community, where she chairs the Black Brooklyn Empowerment Coalition, an organization committed to the political, economic, and social empowerment of Brooklyn residents of African descent. Her role within this organization has motivated her to work collaboratively with other area leaders to empower members of the Central Brooklyn community via voter registration drives, political campaigns, education of formerly incarcerated individuals with respect to their voting rights, and more.
Dr. Blair was graduated from Boston College with a B.A. in political science and international relations. She obtained her Masters in Public Administration (she was recipient of the Clifford D. Clark Fellowship for Minorities) and Ph.D. in Political Science from Binghamton University. In 2004, she was awarded a fellowship from the Crown Heights Youth Collective for improving relations between young people and their academic counselors in the public school system. Dr. Blair is also the proud mother of two.
