Senator Farley Salutes Glenville Resident as Silver Helmet Awardee

From left, State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) was pleased to present Glenville veteran "E J" Knapik (middle) with a New York State Senate Citation on April 28th at the Senate Chambers in Albany, saluting him for being the 2009 recipient of the Silver Helmet AMVET of the Year. Schenectady County Legislator Robert T. Farley (right) was also on hand for the presentation. Mr. Knapik received the award during a banquet held at the Hilton Balitmore BWI Airport on March 14th and was recognized by the New York State Senate for this honor. Mr. Knapik is a veteran of World War II and has been actively involved in AMVET since its early days. He is a charter member of the Amsterdam AMVETS Post 21, representing his post as delegate to the state convention nearly every year for 60 years. He has also served the post as State Legislative Chairman for almost 40 years, and was the post's first finance officer. Mr. Knapik was instrumental in the completion of the new York State Vietnam Memorial, the New York State Korean War Memorial, and the New York State World War II Memorial.
