Senator Serrano is joined by Maria Bonet, Outreach Counselor for the S.L.E. Lupus Foundation, at the workshop on Thursday evening.
In conjunction with the S.L.E. Lupus Foundation, Senator Serrano hosted a Lupus awareness workshop in his district office.
"This is a disease that disproportionately affects women of color, a population already burdened with unequal access to quality and affordable healthcare," said the Senator.
"For this reason, we need to increase awareness in our community, and make sure residents understand the dangers of this disease, and the importance of getting tested."
Lupus is a chronic disease affecting the immune system, which become hyperactive and attacks normal tissue.
