Senator Nozzolio Visits Butler Correctional Facility

Senator Nozzolio recently met with the staff and administrators of the Butler Minimum Security Prison to celebrate the news that the Butler facility would not be closing on October 1st as originally planned.

Under New York State law that Senator Nozzolio authored and had enacted, the Department of Corrections cannot close a prison facility without a mandatory 12 month notification process and legislative oversight. Butler was one of seven facilities slated to close this October without the legally required 12 month notification process.

“I'm very pleased that our efforts to convince the Department of Corrections to keep Butler open were successful,” said Senator Nozzolio, “It is more important than ever that we protect the safety and well being of the people in our local communities. Our correctional officers protect us from violent criminals every single day and they provide the highest level of security possible in our prisons.”
