Information from MTA Bridges and Tunnels:
A new traffic pattern will go into effect on Saturday, May 22nd to accommodate construction work to remove the next set of unused toll booths at the Brooklyn-bound Verrazano-Narrows toll plaza. Four booths have been removed since work began in April.
All three traffic lanes from the east-bound Staten Island Expressway (SIE), as well as the bus and HOV lane, will have access to the upper level roadway as usual. Motorists who need to access the lower level from the expressway will be advised to stay in the right lane during this phase of work. Signs will be in place before the toll plaza to guide drivers to the upper or lower level.
The two lanes coming through the plaza from Father Capodanno Boulevard will remain as is, with cars entering the lower level to the right of the construction zone. Vehicles entering the plaza from Narrows Road South and the Lily Pond Brooklyn-bound ramp will shift to the right of the work zone but will still have access to both levels of the bridge.
Motorists are advised that they may experience some delays during the first few days until drivers get used to the new traffic pattern. The work is part of a $2.5 million contract awarded in January to Paul J. Scariano Inc., of Brooklyn to remove eight unused east-bound toll booths.
