College Point Street Renamed In Honor of Betty Pegen

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) was on hand at the ceremony marking the College Point street renaming in honor of Betty Pegen.  Known fondly as the “Gardening Angel of Poppenhusen Monument Park, Pegen who lived close to the park devoted an enormous amount of her time planting, weeding and caring for the grounds of the park.  The ceremony took place during the Partnership for the Parks “It’s My Park day on Saturday May 15, 2010. Senator Padavan and Councilman Dan Halloran with members of Girl Scout Troop 4399 at the street renaming ceremony in honor of Betty Pegen.
