Local Roads Matter

A contingent of the region’s local highway superintendents traveled to the state capital recently to let state  lawmakers know that “local roads matter.”  In the photo, superintendents representing Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, and Yates counties met with State Senator George Winner (R-C-I, Elmira) outside of his office in the Legislative Office Building to urge New York’s continued commitment to the Consolidated Highway Improvement Program, commonly known as CHIPS, and other priority issues. 

“We need to ensure that upstate New York’s road and bridges receive the commitment they deserve from New York government. The quality of our local transportation infrastructure remains critically important to motorist safety, to tourism, and as a pipeline to future economic development and job creation,” said Senator Winner.
