Senator Kenneth P. LaValle recently visited John T. Mather Memorial Hospital to see the newest ultrasound Brachytherapy unit.  The Senator was able to secure $125,000 in state funding to help the hospital purchase the unit.  Brachytherapy is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat localized prostate cancer.  The ultrasound is a new method of treatment that allows for more consistent radiation coverage of cancer-bearing regions, while sparing adjacent normal tissue from excessive radiation.
