A Day Of Solidarity For Haiti's Lost Sons And Daughters
Malcolm A. Smith
May 14, 2010
On Sunday, May 16th 2010, beginning at 12 noon, Haitian Americans and supporters of Haiti will take part in a memorial procession from the Arch at Grand Army Plaza Prospect Park in Brooklyn, and walk along Flatbush Avenue over the Brooklyn Bridge. The memorial program/service will take place at Foley Square Park (Centre Street in Manhattan) at approximately 3:00 PM. The NY Haiti Memorial falls close to Haitian Flag Day which is celebrated on May 18th in Haiti. The NY Haiti Memorial is sponsored by NOAH NY, a not for profit organization comprised of medical professionals, and a variety of organizations that want to properly honor the 230, 000 Haitian citizens who died due to the January 12th 2010 earthquake and were not buried properly. A special public request will be made to ask the international community not to forget Haitian men, women and children who continue to suffer post the earthquake. Many NOAH physicians and physicians from AMHE, continue to travel to Haiti to provide medical assistance and support. These physicians continue to witness firsthand the ongoing humanitarian needs that are escalating in Haiti and the lack of reconstruction to build a new Haiti. There is a standstill that must be lifted to honor those who lost their lives without warning on January 12th...
The memorial will offer a "Eulogy" to honor all those who died and address the urgent need to move forward quickly before more people perish. The "Eulogy" will call for the construction of a 21st century Haiti that is good for all.
