At the end of 2009, the New York City Department of Education announced the proposed phase-out and eventual closure of three high schools in Queens: Beach Channel High School, Business, Computer Applications, and Entrepreneurship High School and Jamaica High School. The Panel for Education Policy
(PEP) is scheduled to vote on these matters at their meeting on January 26, 2010. Southeast Queens Elected Officials sent a joint letter to Mayor Bloomberg and Chancellor Klein asking them to postpone the vote until they have a chance to meet with them and discuss the matter appropriately.
