SENATOR NOZZOLIO APPOINTED RANKING REPUBLICAN ON THE SENATE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE

State Senator Mike Nozzolio has been chosen as the ranking Republican member on the Senate Judiciary Committee.  The Judiciary Committee is one of the Senate's senior committees and is responsible for oversight of the New York State Court System.

“It is an honor for me to be given the opportunity to continue to serve as the ranking Republican member of the Senate Judiciary Committee. I look forward to working with my colleagues on the Committee to improve the oversight and efficiency of our State Court System, and to take an active role in the judicial nomination process,” said Senator Nozzolio.

As a ranking member of the Judiciary Committee, Senator Nozzolio will review policy and legislation related to the operation of the New York State Court System. He will also review all judicial nominations made by the Governor, including State Supreme Court nominees, prior to a nominee's consideration by the full Senate. The Judiciary Committee also reviews legislation concerning the structure of the Court system, the practice of law, the administration of justice, and the conduct of certain civil proceedings.

In addition, the Judiciary Committee reviews legislation relating to Civil Practice Law and Rules, Judiciary Law, various Court Acts, Real Property Law, and Criminal Procedure Law. Senator Nozzolio, the former Chairman of the Senate Crime Victims, Crime and Correction Committee, has been a staunch and outspoken proponent of criminal justice reform tougher sentencing guidelines for violent criminals and victims' rights. 

In addition to serving as the ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Nozzolio will continue to serve on the Senate Finance Committee; Crime Victims, Crime and Correction Committee; Investigations and Government Operations Committee; Racing, Gaming and Wagering Committee; and Transportation Committee.
