Improving the Quality of Life in South Jamaica
Senator Shirley L. Huntley (D-Jamaica) is seeking to bring solace and answers to residents of South Jamaica, after a shooting claimed the lives of two people. Senator Huntley will conduct a press conference addressing the recent shooting and other quality of life issues such as illegal solicitation for profit, and the continuance of crimes that foster exploitation and substance abuse in the community.
An additional issue that will be addressed at the press conference is the presence and prevalence of boarded and vacant houses and buildings. These vacant properties adversely affect the surrounding community by attracting unwanted trash, rodents, and those who use the property to engage in criminal activities.
“We, as elected officials, community leaders, law enforcement, members of the clergy, and residents must stand together and voice our outrage about the negative influences in the community, and what we must do to improve safety, and the quality of life in our neighborhood.” says Senator Huntley.
