On Sunday, April 11, 2010 New York State Senator Shirley L. Huntley, Assemblyman William Scarborough, Councilman Leroy Comrie, Jr. along with several other elected officials and The Southern Queens Park Association, held a Census Awareness Rally at Roy Wilkins Park in Jamaica, New York in an attempt to boost the Census questionnaire response rates in the Southeast Queens area. Southeast Queens response rate came in very low in comparison to other communities. The goal of the rally was to increase the number of responses as well as inform our community that numerators will be coming door to door to those who have not responded. There were many in attendance and questionnaires were completed and mailed during the rally. Everyone had a fantastic time and gained a better understanding of why it is important to complete and mail back the Census questionnaires.
